If the two-day delivery option that Amazon Prime offers its members simply wasn’t fast enough for your lifestyle, then this surely will be welcomed news from the online retailer.
The company is working to pick up the pace in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
Amazon on Tuesday announced that it has expanded its free one-day shipping service to its Prime members in Bradenton and Sarasota.
Amazon offers the service on qualifying purchases of $35 or more — in most cases, place the order by the afternoon and receive the delivery by 9 p.m. the next day.
The service is available in 14 states and in more than 3,500 cities. Order cut-off times vary by area; to confirm your area is included, use Amazon’s zip code tool: amazon.com/oneday.
Amazon does much of its shipping through fulfillment centers in Ruskin, Doral and Lakeland, and the Seattle-based company is building two more distribution facilities in Jacksonville, one of which is scheduled to open late this year.
The proximity of Bradenton and Sarasota to Amazon’s million-square-foot distribution centers in Ruskin and Lakeland enabled the company to expand its one-day shipping service to the region.
In December, the Ruskin center shipped more than 17 million items — the most of any of the company’s distribution facilities in the United States. Moreover, with the holidays approaching, the center shipped nearly 1 million items in one day.
The Amazon Prime program costs $99 a year — a $10.99 per month subscription option also is available — and gives customers free two-day shipping on many products as well as access to online services. The first 30 days of the annual subscription are free, and customers can cancel anytime.
