MANATEE -- An anti-violence task force comprised of 15 to 20 pastors is expected to lead a worship service called “Hurting But Healing” at 6:30 p.m. today in Palmetto.
The event, which is in response to the Sept. 10 shooting at Club Elite in Palmetto and other violence, is scheduled at Mount Raymond Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2410 Fourth Ave. E.
“We are inviting everyone to come,” said Pastor Cory Brinson of the Spiritual House of Praise in Palmetto.
“The goal of the task force is to proactively confront the issues and conditions in our community that promote and support violence,” he added.
The recent shootings have served as a catalyst to motivate the ministers to come out against what they term “senseless violence,” and take a leadership role in healing the community and restoring a sense of community and cultural pride, Brinson said.
“We must stand together and support each other if we are to make a difference,” Brinson said.
