Manatee County commissioners Tuesday discussed creating an educational program or distributing information about coyotes on the loose in the county.
Options included an educational program on METV, online information about coyotes and tips on keeping them away from your yard, and/or a press release offering tips through the news media about who to call and what to do if you see a coyote in your neighborhood.
Residents in recent weeks have reported at least two pet animals, a cat and a dog, that they believe were killed by coyotes in urban areas of the county.
The county does not control the wild animals. Residents should contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission if they see a coyote roaming in their neighborhood, commissioners said.
