Gov. Rick Scott is set to sign a bill intended to crack down on pill mills on Friday, with bill signing ceremonies set for 9 a.m. in Fort Lauderdale, noon in Tampa and 3:15 p.m. in Orlando. All three events are at law enforcement locations: The police department in Fort Lauderdale, a sheriff's office in Tampa and FDLE headquarters in Orlando.
Among other things, the bill strengthens a prescription drug monitoring database. Scott initially wanted to kill the database altogether, but that idea was a non-starter because of resistance from the state Senate and pressure from elected officials from throughout the country to keep the program.
