MANATEE -- A 36-year-old Ellenton man was shocked Wednesday night when he climbed to the top of a power line in hopes of restoring power to his home, according to Capt. Larry Leinhauser, spokesman for Manatee County Public Safety.
The man, who lives in the 3000 block of 56th Avenue East, was upset with Florida Power and Light for disconnecting power to his home because he did not pay his bill, Leinhauser said.
The victim climbed the pole to reconnect his power by himself at about 7:20 p.m. and was shocked in the process. After he fell to the ground, his wife called 911.
When emergency personnel arrived, he was semiconscious and had not gone into cardiac arrest, Leinhauser said.

He suffered first- and second-degree burns and was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he is in stable condition, Leinhauser said.
