MANATEE — Jenny Hicks quietly cried at her church Tuesday afternoon as she thought of her 18-year-old daughter who was struck and killed by a car over the weekend.
Family members believe Amanda Hicks was killed when she ran into the road after an argument began to escalate with her boyfriend and was struck by a vehicle near Carlton Arms Boulevard and State Road 64 on Saturday night.
Jenny Hicks said her daughter left with her boyfriend during her brother’s football game at the Palmetto Youth Center after volunteering with children all day.
“He was leaving and she felt she had to go because of him,” Hicks said, sitting with her husband, Ty inside The Source Church, 1905 72nd Drive E.

According to Bradenton Police Department reports released Tuesday, a 48-year-old man was driving west on State Road 64 when Amanda Hicks ran across the intersection with Carlton Arms Boulevard. The driver told police officers he had the green light and that he never saw her enter the intersection.
“I’m not mad at him. I’m not upset with him,” said Hicks of the driver. “I love him and my prayers are with his family. I don’t want him to have that on his heart.”
Hicks was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics just before 9:30 p.m., according to police reports.Police continue to investigate the crash and events leading up to it.
