MANATEE — A 68-year-old man remained in critical condition Friday at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after a gunman entered his home and shot him in the head, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities believe the man’s shooting was not a random incident.
No gun was recovered and there was no forced entry, according to investigators.
The man’s daughter found him lying on the floor with blood on his head and hands just before 3 p.m. Thursday. She ran out of the duplex in the 600 block of 59th Avenue East and called 911 from a neighbor’s home.
Neighbors did not notice anyone coming or going from the residence after the man arrived home at 2 p.m.
Authorities are not releasing a possible motive in the case or if they have identified any suspects.
They also would not confirm if anything was missing from the residence.
