MANATEE — A 22-year-old man was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the area of the buttocks while standing in a Burger King parking lot at about 2:25 p.m. Monday, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
A vehicle approached the man, who was seen pacing around in the parking lot at 3803 First St. E. He went to the passenger side, opened the door and was shot.
Several 911 calls were received afterwards.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is interviewing the man and working on getting a vehicle description as well as possible video footage from the restaurant, said Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Dave Bristow.
A motive for the shooting is unknown.
The gunman is believed to be in his 20s and was last seen wearing tan shorts and an orange polo shirt.
