MANATEE -- Tickets are still available for Friday's A Tribute to Heroes Luncheon, which will headline a series of events this weekend to commemorate the ninth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2011, terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.
The luncheon, at 11:30 a.m. at Bradenton Auditorium, 1005 Barcarrota Blvd., will features a speech by retired Army Lt. Col. Kathryn Champion. -- Tribute to Heroes Memorial Service, 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Emergency Services Memorial in Bradenton’s Rossi Park.

- The Tribute to Heroes Bash 7 p.m. - midnight Friday at Bradenton Auditorium, 1005 Barcarrota Blvd. Enjoy live music from The Dr. Dave Band, raffle prizes, a 50-50 drawing and more. -- Manatee Technical Institute East Campus remembrance 9 a.m. Friday in the Conard Building. The keynote speaker will be NBA referee Bob Delaney; MTI Main Campus ceremony will be held in Leatherman Auditorium. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m.
-- University Park Country Club & Fit2Run 9/11 four-mile run to benefit the 9/11 Fireman’s Emergency Services Memorial Fund 7:30 a.m. Saturday and will start with a ceremony and a moment of silence. -- The Post 911 Foundation has selected Palmetto as one of 15 U.S. communities to receive an American flag that will be flown over the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Palmetto’s flag, escorted by local law enforcement and firefighters as well as Thunder Rolls motorcyclists, will be presented to Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant during a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Palmetto Historical Park. There will be a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the exact time a hijacked jetliner hit the North Tower at the World Trade Center.
-- Cry Out America, nationwide prayer gathering, noon - 1 p.m. Saturday at the Manatee County Courthouse. The gathering will be focused on prayer for the community, the military, education, the church, marriage, youth, friends, family and for the spiritual condition of the nation. -- The Ladies Auxiliary and the Mens Auxiliary of Ellenton VFW Post 9226, 3511 12th St. E., Ellenton, is having a free cookout for all local responders with music 3- 5 p.m. Saturday.
