MANATEE — A man was shot in his right leg during an attempted robbery Thursday afternoon, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was walking near 12th Street East and 62nd Avenue East at around 1 p.m. when the suspect pointed a handgun at him and demanded everything he had, a news release stated.
The victim had nothing and began backing away. The suspect then fired a handgun, striking the victim in the lower right leg, according to the release.
After the shot was fired, the victim went to a nearby relative’s residence and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital by a family member. The suspect fled north, the same direction he had come from, the release stated.

The suspect is described as 6-foot 2-inches tall, wearing black shorts, a black long-sleeved shirt with a black T-shirt over his face and black sneakers.
