MANATEE -- Manatee County Sheriff's deputies used a stun gun late Friday night to save a suicidal man's life.
The man's wife called 911 to advise that her husband had locked himself in the bathroom with a knife and was threatening to kill himself, according to a sheriff's office report.
Upon arrival at the residence in the 2800 block of 14th Street West, deputies found the man in the bedroom, lying on the bed, holding a large knife to his chest.
A deputy negotiated with the man to put the knife down. The man moved the knife from his chest to his stomach and then his throat.
When the opportunity presented itself, deputies seized the arm in which the man held the knife while another deputy deployed his stungun. The man was struck in the chest by the stun gun and detained without further incident. He was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
