MANATEE — A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office captain will begin a new assignment as head of east patrol Aug. 15 after recently winning appeal in a disciplinary case that could have resulted in a demotion to lieutenant.
Capt. Kristin Kennedy, who currently oversees the Child Protective Investigative Division, told investigators she kissed Detective April Dugan last year and then had an intimate encounter with the same subordinate in September and another time in May.
After her actions were brought to light, investigators recommended discipline for Kennedy. After winning her appeal in a 3 to 2 vote by the board, she was told she would be given a lateral transfer.
Kennedy’s new patrol area includes points extending to Interstate 75 and north to Manatee River. Capt. BG Dixon, who formerly oversaw that district, will head up child protective investigations in place of Kennedy.
