MANATEE -- Deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of 301 Boulevard East about 7:50 p.m. Sunday in reference to a man standing in the middle of the roadway screaming and threatening park residents, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrived and made contact with the man "who became extremely agitated and began stomping his feet." The man was unable to answer any questions and started screaming uncontrollably, the sheriff's report said.
Deputies determined the man was not in a proper state of mind to care for himself and attempted to take him into custody under the Baker Act. The man became violent and began punching one of the deputies in the chest.
The man was tased in order to subdue him but he was able to flee and had to be tased a second time.

The man was taken into custody and transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
