BRADENTON - A 30-year-old woman faces a child neglect charge after she left her three children in her car while she went into a grocery store, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Waldina E. Madrid told officers she had gone into the Bravo Supermarket in the 2000 block of 14th Street West about 11:10 a.m. Friday to buy some juice for her children. She told officers she was in the store for only about 5 minutes before they arrived on the scene, but a review of the store's video surveillance system found that she had left her three children, including an infant and toddler, in the un-air-conditioned car for about 15 minutes.
When officers arrived, the front windows in Madrid's car were rolled down, but the younger of the children were sweating profusely, according to a report.
The officer wrote in the report that he felt Madrid's negligence was based not on malice but on carelessness.
As of Monday, Madrid remained in the Manatee County jail on $10,000 bond on a charge of child neglect.
