A Manatee County Sheriff's Office detective in a McDonald's drive-through on 14th Street West noticed a Red Dodge Charger in front of him about 2:30 a.m. today. He ran the tag and found the vehicle to be stolen. Units responded to assist with an arrest. As one deputy arrived to block the vehicle's exit , the detective boxed him in from behind, according to a sheriff's report. The driver in the stolen car turned the vehicle north, and jumped the wall into the 41 Center parking lot. The suspect continued north and fled towards 1st Street.
The pursuit continued north at speeds between 85-120 mph. The traffic was nonexistent during most of the pursuit and only very light traffic was encountered on the Skyway Bridge, the report said.
Once in Pinellas County, deputies began losing radio transmission. Due to the fact that no Pinellas County units had joined the pursuit, the pusuit was terminated.
The vehicle was last seen exiting onto 5th Street North heading eastbound. This information was relayed to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and the units from Manatee County returned to Manatee county.
