Manatee Board of County Commissioners today suspended school-related impact fees and half of all transportation-related impact fees for two years, according to a county news release.
The reduction will mean that impact fees on a three-bedroom home will be cut from $15,576 to about $5,500, or about $10,000 less.
The reduction will apply to building permits opened after Jan. 1, 2009 , but that will not receive its certificate of occupancy by July 27, 2009.
An impact fee is a one-time charge placed on new development to pay for new roads, parks, emergency equipment and more. Manatee County estimates that the temporary impact fee reduction will amount to $7 million over two years. Without that money, certain projects like the widening of Moccasin Wallow Road and construction of 44th Avenue will be delayed, according to the news release.
