New pastor: Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6311 Third Ave. W., Bradenton, announces the Rev. Jared A. Olson has accepted the call to be its senior pastor. He has been the senior pastor at Hope Lutheran Church at Port St. Lucie since 2000, and before that served as an associate pastor of Shepherd of the Glades Lutheran Church in Naples. Interfaith Tea: An afternoon of interfaith learning and friendship will begin at 1:30 p.m. May 8 at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota. Female religious leaders and lay people from various faiths -- including Judaism, trans-denominational Christianity, Hinduism, and Greek Orthodox -- will discuss the arts, music, dance and foods of their religions, and how these elements are woven into the traditions and celebrations of each faith. Feast of the Ascension: The Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota, will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. Regarded as one of the seven principal feast days of the Episcopal Church and considered a holy day of obligation, the day will be celebrated with masses at 7:30 a.m., a 10 a.m., Choral Mass with hymns, and an evening Solemn High Mass at 6 p.m. A feast will be offered immediately afterward in Gillespie Hall. Sarasota Young Voices Chamber Choir: Join Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11107 Palmbrush Trail, Lakewood Ranch, for Divas and Desserts 7-8:30 p.m. May 11. for an evening of music, song and delectable desserts. Shavuot commemoration: The Chabad House, 5712 Lorraine Road, Lakewood Ranch, commemorates Shavuot, the day the Jews received the Ten Commandments (Torah) and the revelation on Mount Sinai, for two days, beginning at sundown May 14 through nightfall May 16.
