More than 40 of gospel music’s top artists will be performing in Palmetto drawing gospel fans from across the country and abroad.
Bill Bailey’s 2018 Winter Gospel Music Convention kicks off Monday bringing six days of performances by gospel artists to the Bradenton Area Convention Center, One Haben Blvd in Palmetto, featuring guest artist David Phelps.
“This is America’s largest Southern gospel convention during winter,” Pastor Bill Bailey said. “People come from all over the country and several foreign countries.”
Each year, Bailey said the convention sets out to deliver the top artists in Southern gospel, as well as feature a special guest or two. This year Bailey is especially excited about guest star David Phelps, as well as the bluegrass group Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver.
Never miss a local story.
“Bluegrass and gospel are like cousins,” Bailey said. “This is the first time they have been with us.”
Individual tickets or six-night passes can be purchased in advance at the Happy Gospel Church, 1915 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton; Miller’s Dutch Kitchen and Gift Shop, 3401 14th St. W., Bradenton; Yoder’s Restaurant & Gift Shop, 3434 Bahia Vista St., Sarasota; and at the Bradenton Area Convention Center.
Nightly general admission is $20 for adults, and $5 for children ages 3 to 11. Six-night passes are $105 for general admission and $145 for VIP reserved seating.
Admission is free for all the matinee concerts and chapel services with an offering. Matinee concerts will be a two-hour-long performance in the main area of the convention center and begin daily at 1:30 p.m.
“We designed that with our local seniors in mind that may not drive at night,” Bailey said.
Chapel services will be held daily at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday in the convention center’s Longboat Key room. A fellowship hour with a free continental breakfast will held before the service.
Parking for RV’s on the convention center’s grounds has already sold out, according to Bailey. It’s always very interesting for locals to see so many RV’s from all over the country parked at the convention center, he added.
