Longboat Island Chapel will hold it’s 24th annual Jazz Sunday on Feb. 12 at the 10 a.m. worship service. The theme this year will be “Weather” and will cover themed music on weather found in the American Songbook. This event is being planned by local jazz celebrity drummer Al Hixon, and features Tony Swain, clarinetist and MC, pianist Dick Reynold, bass player John Lamb, who toured for many years with Duke Ellington, trombonist Louise Wilson, and James Suggs on trumpet. Jordana Tolsky is arriving from Toronto to sing with the band. These musicians have performed over the years with top jazz stars throughout the world. Kosher Cooking & Tasting Competition
Chabad of Bradenton & Lakewood Ranch is preparing its third one-of a kind event —which will be open to men and women — a Kosher Cooking & Tasting Competition, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21. At the event, there will several cooking competitions, including a MasterChef inspired competition — tasting opportunities, a presentation of surprisingly Kosher dishes. Competitors will be cooking Kosher dishes at Chabad to be voted on for creativity and taste at this cooking event. All competitors will receive fabulous entry prizes and a grand prize will be awarded for the winner. While some attendees will be competing in one of the cooking competitions, everyone is invited to attend as tasters as well. No cooking experience necessary to attend this event. A faith-based Addiction & Recovery Outreach Program for men and women who struggle with addictions will be held 7-9 p.m. Fridays in the back of Bible Baptist Church, Room 201, 2113 Morgan Johnson Road, Bradenton, as our RU (Reformers Unanimous) Chapter K0455 meets. RU offers Biblical solutions that can help break the chains of addiction and bondage through the Lord Jesus Christ.
