A former Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detective could face theft charges after he was reportedly caught shoplifting Rogaine and women’s deodorant at a Publix supermarket in Bradenton.
Michael McClusky is accused of putting the items in his backpack while shopping at Bayshore Gardens Publix, and then leaving the store without paying for them, according to court documents.
Store surveillance video shows McClusky walking down an aisle and taking Rogaine and a stick of women’s deodorant from a shelf and putting them in a backpack in his shopping cart.
Store security stopped McClusky who went through a checkout lane without paying for the items totaling $60.48.McClusky reportedly turned over the Rogaine and women’s deodorant “without hesitation."
McClusky was asked to sign a form admitting he intentionally carried items he did not pay for out of the store. The former detective later told investigators he signed the statement but did not read it.
McClusky was not arrested for the misdemeanor. An internal investigation being conducted by the State Attorney’s Office.
