BRADENTON -- Old Main Street business owners and others who stage events downtown Wednesday offered suggestions on how best to manage the city’s increasingly popular waterfront location.
Among the suggestions was to close off Old Main Street with temporary barriers during weekends to render it more pedestrian-friendly.
“Every Friday through Sunday, we close off all of Main Street and make it a pedestrian thoroughfare from Manatee Avenue to Third Avenue,” City Councilman Bemis Smith suggested during a workshop session this morning.
The city could also try valet parking behind the County Administrative Center to better meet the needs of those who come downtown to eat, drink and attend increasingly large shows and events, Smith said.
