BRADENTON — A local team is organizing to plan regatta events along Bradenton’s waterfront that might take place for the first time next year.
The team hopes to put on “more festival type” events that might include such things as dragon boat, canoe and kayak, and stand-up power board races, as well as small competitive rowing races, said Paul Blackketter, executive director of planning at Benderson, which is partnering with Manatee and Sarasota counties in hopes of developing world-class rowing facilities across both counties.
“The organizing team is being developed to start planning future regattas,” said Blackketter on Wednesday. “There’s a lot of interest in hosting these things. People that do water events are interested in the venue because of the design, and the river, and the amenities.”
“It’s definitely a great location to have these events,” Blackketter said.
