BRADENTON -- School Superintendent Tim McGonegal’s annual contract with the district was extended to Dec. 31, 2013 in a unanimous vote by board members Monday night.
McGonegal’s contract calls for board members to vote by June 30 on whether they will continue his employment with the district.
Degree changes are also a part of McGonegal’s contract. He received his doctoral degree earlier this year. But he turned down the salary increase worth more than $13,000 that accompanies that degree change.
McGonegal started out in 2009 making $165,000 a year. He now makes $171,000 a year.
Several school employees and Manatee County residents spoke on McGonegal’s behalf at the board meeting. The speakers offered their congratulations, thanks and support to McGonegal for his time so far on the job.
Pastor Dexter McDonald said he supported McGonegal’s “work and effort put forth in the community. Our superintendent is concerned about every student.”
“He’s a leader I would follow through these difficult times,” resident David Lesnek said.
McGonegal thanked everyone for their comments at the meeting’s end.
“I am humbled by the support,” he said.
