MANATEE -- A Manatee County man was shot and killed Friday night following an argument with several people in the 1100 block of 35th Avenue West, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m., deputies said. Details were still sketchy Saturday about the cause of the shooting and how it happened.
Antonio Martinez, 33, was shot and then ran though several duplexes in the area to get away from his attackers before he collapsed in front of a residence, Lt. Dennis Cunningham said.
Martinez was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg where he was later pronounced dead. A few people were taken into custody and questioned after the incident, Cunningham said.
Never miss a local story.
Neighbors said they hadn’t seen Martinez in the area before and that he had spoken casually to a few neighbors hours before his death.
Martinez had a prior police record with felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance to a minor, lewd and lascivious battery on a victim younger than 16, home invasion robbery and battery.
Anyone with information about the shooting can call the sheriff’s office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS.
