People’s Platelist: ABC’s “Nightline” has chosen Euphemia Haye Restaurant chef/proprietor Raymond Arpke as a finalist in its annual People’s Platelist Contest, which recognizes outstanding chefs whose cuisine is exceptionally creative and authentic. Chef Arpke is one of only 20 finalists chosen from over 1,000 entries from across America and is the sole finalist in Florida. The overall winner will be determined by popular vote by logging on to the “Nightline” page at ABCNews.com beginning Aug. 26. In keeping with contest rules, Euphemia Haye has prepared a special video promoting Chef Arpke; it will be posted on the “Nightline” site Aug. 26. The chef receiving the most online votes by Sept. 26 will be declared the winner and will be the topic of a special “Nightline” segment.

Craft beer-pairing dinner: Mattison’s Riverside, 1200 First Ave. W., Bradenton, will prepare a Craft Beer-Pairing Dinner 6 p.m. Sept. 2. This five-course beer-pairing dinner presented by Chef Greg Campbell includes brewed onion soup; iceberg wedge with five spice bacon, tomato, red onion, cheddar cheese, and butter ranch dressing; kobe beef sliders with maytag blue cheese, spicy pepper relish, and beer-battered vidalia onions; and mandarin orange New York-style cheesecake. History and cooking: The Tampa Bay History Center and Columbia Cafe are partnering for A Taste of History, a hands-on culinary workshop series exploring classic recipes from Florida’s oldest restaurant. Beginning Sept. 8, three culinary workshops will explore the origins and stories behind several of the Columbia Restaurant’s signature dishes. Sept. 8 is 1905 salad, Sept. 15 is the Cuban sandwich and Sept. 22 is red sangria and bread pudding. Sessions are at 6 p.m. in TECO Hall.
