BRADENTON — The local unemployment rate is on the rise again, according to state labor statistics released today.
Manatee County’s unemployment rate increased to 11.9 percent in June, after it had declined for three straight months for the first time since 2005. Unemployment typically increases as the economy shows signs of improvement because more jobless citizens reactivate their job search, according to state economists.
Manatee’s revised unemployment rate in May was 11.5 percent.
Sarasota County’s unemployment rate also increased in June. The rate jumped to 11.8 percent from a revised rate of 11.4 percent in May.
The two-county area has 36,792 people who are out of work.
