These walls may seem bare, but when Wendell Faison looks around at the walls in this room, or around at the rest of the Desoto Boys & Girls Club, he sees an opportunity.
An opportunity to help impact the lives of the hundreds of school-age children who pass through these walls every day. Faison, himself a club kid, grew up spending afternoons at the Boys & Girls Club on Ninth Street West in Bradenton.
Like so many of the organizations in Manatee County, the Boys & Girls Club is just one of many that need a little help. You don’t have to have deep pockets, or a corporation standing behind you in order to help. Much of the help comes from individuals giving back, many of whom are former club kids themselves. You can volunteer your time or your talents. Know how to re-felt a pool table? Well they could use you in the game room at the Desoto Club. It’s Wendell’s latest project, and he’s hoping to find people willing to donate some sports memorabilia to hang on the walls, or a few extra pool cues, or perhaps a game or two that a child or teenager might enjoy.
