MANATEE — Two men were shot early Sunday morning after a confrontation in the 2100 block of U.S. 41 in Palmetto, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The victims were walking along the roadway about 12:46 a.m. when suspects drove by the victims, heading northbound in a dark-colored SUV.
One of the victims, 20, exchanged words with the suspects as they drove by. The suspects turned around and parked the SUV in the median of U.S. 41, according to the sheriff’s office.
Two of the suspects exited the SUV and started arguing with the victims. Another suspect got out of the vehicle, joined the argument, pulled a gun and fired several times, the sheriff’s office said.
One of the victims, who is 18, was shot in the leg and abdomen. The other victim was shot in the right arm.
The suspects then fled.
The 18-year-old was transported to Bayfront Medical Center, but his injuries, as well as those suffered by the other victim, were considered non-life threatening.
There were a total of five people in the vehicle, two females and three males. The descriptions of the possible suspects were sketchy, although two were described as being teenagers, according to the sheriff’s office.
