Two men from Manatee County were arrested Monday and charged with robbing a Naples bank.
Milton Andre Almeida, 24, and Ryan Michael Hoy, 30, were caught in the act about 4 a.m. Monday trying to break into a night deposit box at South Trust Bank in Naples, according to Dave Couvertier, spokesman for the FBI’s Tampa Field Office.
The arrests were part of a Southwest Florida Violent Crime Task Force operation, Couvertier said.
The task force shared information about the individuals that led to a surveillance operation, he said.
“That’s the beauty of the task force concept — everyone working together,” Couvertier said.
The task force consists of the Bradenton Police Department, the Sarasota Police Department and the Sarasota FBI office.
The Bradenton Police Department has one officer assigned to task force, according to department spokesman Deputy Chief Jeffrey Lewis.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrests of Almeida and Hoy, according to a FBI press release.
The pair are in federal custody and were being held in a Tampa facility, Couvertier said. The FBI took over the case because the bank is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., he said.
They had their first appearance Monday in the U.S. District Court in Tampa.
