MANATEE — A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot a man wanted on a charge of not registering as a sex offender with a Taser stun gun twice in effort to get the man to submit to arrest, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies arrested Richard Anthony Parent, 48, on Tuesday after they said he resisted arrest outside a mobile home in the 600 block of 63rd Avenue West.
Parent tried to escape several times before a deputy shot him with a Taser stun gun, then had to stun him a second time after he resisted again. After threatening a third stun, Parent submitted to arrest, the sheriff’s report said.
Parent told deputies he had an outstanding warrant out of Boston so he could not register as a sex offender in Florida.
Deputies arrested him on charges of failure to register as a sex offender and resisting arrest. He was being held in the Manatee County jail without bond.
