MANATEE — A rash of home invasions that has plagued the area in recent weeks continued early this morning when two men barged into a home. A man in the house was shot in the thigh, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
The sheriff’s report said at around 1:20 a.m., two men entered an unlocked home in the 2500 block of 48th Avenue West, and were confronted by a man in the house.
A struggled ensued between the resident and the man with the gun. During the encounter, the gun went off and the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. He was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with what were described as non life-threatening injuries.
After the shooting, the intruders went into a bedroom in the home before fleeing. It is unknown if they stole anything, the sheriff’s report said.

One of the suspects was described as standing 6 feet tall and having a medium build. The second described was standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a small build.
Both suspects were wearing black hoodies, according to the sheriff’s office.
