MANATEE — Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives, with the help of federal and Mexican authorities, have captured a Bradenton man who fled before sentencing on a molestation conviction and has been on the run for two years.
Larry Laudig, 71, has been extradited back to Florida after Mexican authorities arrested him in Morelia, Mexico, according to a report released by Manatee sheriff’s spokesman Randy Warren.
Det. Sid Jones worked with both the U.S. Marshall’s Office and Mexican authorities to locate Laudig, Warren’s report said. Laudig has been on the run after pleading guilty to lewd and lascivious molestation in 2006, but he did not show up for his sentencing hearing in 2007.
The case garnered the national spotlight in September 2008, when Lauding was featured as a most-wanted fugitive on the popular television show “America’s Most Wanted.” He now faces an additional charge of failing to appear in court on the original charge.
