BRADENTON — Manatee County’s unemployment rate increased in May after April showed minor relief for the jobless.
Manatee’s unemployment rate is 11.1 percent, up from 10.8 percent in April.
The area’s unemployment rate reflects 16,141 people who are out of work and is a significant increase from the 6 percent unemployment rate in May 2008.
Sarasota County’s jobless rate went from 10.3 percent in April to 10.8 percent in May, a reflection of 18,111 who are unemployed.
Sarasota’s unemployment rate in May 2008 was 6.3 percent.
