MANATEE — Manatee County Administrator Ed Hunzeker is recommending the county levy a business license fee to raise funds for county economic development programs.
Hunzeker unveiled the proposal during a workshop meeting this morning during which commissioners got a first look at his proposed $497 million budget for 2009-10.
Hunzeker is proposing the county spend $33.7 million less than the current budget.
Faced with declining revenue because of the economic downturn and taxpayer revolt, Hunzeker proposed cutting several programs and eliminating 82 positions.
The commissioners scheduled several more workshops over then next two weeks, with a public hearing on the proposed budget on June 18.
