BRADENTON — Mike Horne, principal of Southeast High, has his job back.
Manatee County schools Superintendent Tim McGonegal today decided to reinstate Horne, about two weeks after the superintendent announced he would not be renewing Horne’ contract for the next school year.
An automated phone message carrying the news was delivered to Southeast High staff and parents at 6 p.m. today.
Initially, district administrators said they weren’t going to renew the principal contracts for Horne, Debbie Valcarcel of Palmetto High and Scott Cooper of Buffalo Creek Middle.
But Horne's supporters flooded a recent school board meeting to convince McGonegal to keep Horne. Southeast High teachers even invited McGonegal to the school to voice their concerns about letting Horne go.
