Home Care Month barbecue: A community barbecue honoring National Home Care Month will be held at Veterans Park on the north lawn of Manatee Memorial Hospital 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 5. The event will include music, a proclamation from the City of Bradenton and employee of the year awards. Sponsored by Florida Home Health, it is open to the public. Cost: $3, with all proceeds benefiting the Senior Advocacy Council.

Lecture series for cancer patients: Blake Medical Center is offering a free lecture series developed by the American Cancer Society called “I Can Cope.” The classes cover a variety of topics for newly diagnosed cancer patients and their caregivers, including, defining cancer and its treatment options, nutrition, coping psychologically with the diagnosis, and more. Classes are held the first and third Thursday of the month through April from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Blake’s Cancer Resource Room, located in the Blake Medical Arts Building, Suite 3400. Lunch included. H2U program: The h2u Program is a health and wellness organization, whose goal is to empower its members to improve their overall fitness and wellness so that they may enjoy a healthier more fulfilling life style. In Manatee County the program is sponsored by Blake Medical Center. Individuals pay an annual membership fee of $15 per person. Activities offered include aerobics, bridge lesson, bingo, tai chi, line dancing, Wii, Zumba and more. For specific dates and reservation, call (888) 359-3552.

Lakewood Ranch Medical Center programs and support groups: Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, 8330 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., holds the following programs and support groups: diabetes support group, Healthy Hearts support group, Heart Device support group, childbirth education classes, new mom and baby group, prenatal yoga. Manatee Memorial Hospital programs and support groups: Manatee Memorial Hospital, 206 Second St. E., hosts support groups, seminars and classes monthly in the hospital. Seminars include: Surgical Weight Loss, which is held monthly in the New Patient Tower Auditorium. The seminar discusses the Lap-Band procedure. Call 745-7245 for information and dates. Perinatal Education Classes at MOMM’s Place are held monthly for moms, dads and families. Call 745-6925 for a schedule. Arthritis exercise: The Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Center, 6020 S.R. 70, in conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation, offers an warm-water aquatic exercise programs to help control and reduce arthritis pain. The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program, gentle on the joints and proven in research studies to reduce arthritis pain and improve ability to do more daily activities, will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at the center, 6020 S.R. 70, Bradenton.
