BRADENTON -- SweetBerries Eatery, a sandwich, salad and frozen custard shop, was broken into and burglarized of at least $3,000 over the weekend.
Someone broke a bathroom window, entered the property at 4500 Manatee Ave. W. and pried the restaurant's safe from the floor, according to Manatee sheriff's deputies.
Owner Mike Osmond said the safe contained about $3,000 and because Monday is Memorial Day, he was not able to access the camera footage from the security system. Osmond will obtain the footage Tuesday and turn it over to deputies, he said.
The Bradenton location has been burglarized an estimated five times before.

"You can't have glass in a restaurant anymore," Osmond said. He'll board up the windows and plans to add extra cameras and security measures. He also plans to change the way the restaurant handles money.
"I'm not leaving money here ever again," Osmond said. "There will be no safe. We'll have to take it to the bank every night. These days, you have to protect your building against wind, water and scumbags."
