The next play from the Island Players, who are celebrating their 69th season this year, is “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick. Opening tonight, the comedy runs through March 25.
“The Curious Savage,” directed by Kelly Wynn Woodland and co-produced by Bortell’s Lounge, is a comedic play about Ethel P. Savage, an elderly woman whose husband recently died and left her $10 million. Her stepchildren realize they cannot get control of the funds and commit her to a sanatorium hoping to bring her to her senses. Press materials say it is a “heartwarming comedy, kindness and affection battle greed and dishonesty.”
The cast features several Island regulars, including Jeannie Hudkins as Florence, Joanie Anton as Fairy May, Susan Belvo as Mrs. Paddy, Jim Faltot as Titus, Thomas Carson as Samuel, Jennifer Kwiatkowski as Lily Belle, Cathy Hansel-Edgerton as Ethel, and Candace Artim as Miss Willie.
The Players’ next play, “An Inspector Calls,” by J.B. Priestly, runs May 3-13. If you aspire to be on stage, auditions are at 7:30 p.m. March 11 at the theater.
