Two former "Saturday Night Live" cast members are coming to the area this weekend. While Jim Breuer's down in Sarasota doing his stand-up thing at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre, the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa will be hosting Jay Mohr.
Mohr spent just a couple of seasons on "SNL," and he wasn't especially memorable.
Mohr's much more well known for his acting roles in semi-serious TV shows and movies. Most of us first took notice of him when the played the slimy sports agent in "Jerry Maguire," and he was Prof. Rick Payne on "The Ghost Whisperer." And since early last year, he's been the host of "Jay Mohr Sports" on Fox Sports Radio. He's written a couple of books, too.
But he's been doing stand-up comedy ever since he was a teenager, and he's done comedy specials and live stand-up appearances all through the years, in between his acting gigs.
His Tampa appearance is scheduled for Saturday night.
Other shows he's done recently have featured more than two straight crowd-pleasing hours of non-stop laughs, with topics ranging from family life (the subject of his second book, "No Wonder My Parents Drank") to some raunchier stuff.
If you want to see him, you should probably get your tickets soon. Mohr's show has been selling quickly and will probably sell out.
