More than two dozen of the area's best blues artists will all be on one stage Thursday night.
The latest Ladies Sing the Blues concert features 21 women and a backing band of four guys at the Swordfish Grill in Cortez. They'll play just about every subgenre of blues you can imagine, from old-timey Mississippi blues to R&B. A tribute act called the Florida Blues Brothers will act as hosts.
It should be great music, and it will definitely be for a great cause.
All the singers and musicians are donating their time and talent, and all the money from ticket sales, drawings and raffles will go to the SunCoast Blood Bank Donor Awareness Program. Swordfish Grill will also donate 10 percent of all the food and beverage sales to the blood bank.
Never miss a local story.
Among the ladies who will be singing and playing the blues are Twinkle, Rebecca Bird, Betty Fox, Karyn Denham and Lani Copp. Bradenton blues man Steve Arvey is the musical director.
Tickets have been going fast, and organizers expect this to be the most popular charity concert of all the Ladies Sing the Blues has staged since the project started in 2011. It's probably a good idea to get tickets in advance. You can order them online or stop by Swordfish Grill.
