Three in OnePen Women, Nell Rude Photography & Fab 5-Old Florida curated by Susanna Spann
September 28 – October 29Opening Reception: Thursday, September 30, 2010 5-7pm
ArtCenter Manatee is featuring three exhibits in one with the work of Pen Women, photography by Nell Rude and scenes of Old Florida by the Fab 5. This show will be running during the Festival sARTee, an expansion of the Ringling International Arts Festival showcasing world-class arts and culture in a variety of venues throughout Manatee and Sarasota Counties.Members of the Sarasota Chapter of the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW), one of the oldest and most respected arts organizations for women in the United States will each have two pieces on display. Visitors may submit ballots for the “People’s Choice Award” which will be given at the end of the show. Joining the visual artists at the Opening Reception are NLAPW members who have published novels, memoirs, children’s books and a history of Sarasota.
Photographer Nell Rude, a member of several local arts organizations who has exhibited throughout the area for more than 20 years and has won national and local awards brings her one woman show to the ArtCenter. Her style has grown from that of a nature photographer trained by Margaret Meade and others at Selby Gardens, to a diverse artist delving into abstract images. Rounding out the exhibit is the Fab 5 whose work features scenes of “old” Florida. This group brought together by Susanna Spann includes artists Ben Essenberg, Janice Campbell, Linda Molto and Carroll Swayze. Each of the artists brings their view of Florida as it exists in those special places where man has not significantly changed the landscape, evoking images that allow us to travel back to a more peaceful, less hurried time. The galleries are open Monday, Friday and Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9 AM to 6 PM.
