The third annual Bradenton Blues Festival may be over, but area music-lovers don't have to wait a full year for another.
A new event, the Suncoast Blues Festival, is set for April 25 at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds on Ringling Boulevard in Sarasota.
Organizers include Paul Benjamin, who books the talent for the Bradenton Blues Festival and other major national blues events, and people from Blues Music Magazine.
The lineup for the inaugural festival includes Bobby Rush, Smokin' Joe Kubek and Bnois King, Eden Brent, Mr. Sipp, Zac Harmon and Vasti Jackson.
Sarasota had been home to blues festival for many years. But the web site of that event, the Sarasota Blues and Music Festival, has for more than a year, shown a message that reads "Unfortunately there will not be a Bluesfest in Sarasota in 2013. We appreciate your continued interest and look forward to 2014!"
Benjamin said Saturday he hopes the new event will fill the gap left by the apparent demise of the other festival.
Tickets for the Suncoast Blues Festival are available now for $30 at suncoastbluesfestival.com.
