It's been a decade since Bette Midler has performed a major tour. She's starting a new your in May, and one of the first stops is in Tampa.
The Divine Miss M will be at Tampa's Amalie Arena on May 11. That's only three days after the tour starts in Hollywood.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 8, but the prices haven't been announced yet. If you buy online, you'll get a free copy of Midler's new album, "It's the Girls!" for each ticket. The album is set to be released today.
The new album is a tribute to girl groups from the '40s to the '90s - everyone from the Andrews Sisters to the Supremes to TLC. ("Vanity Fair" magazine has raved about Midler's cover of a TLC hit, saying "you haven't lived until you've heard Midler sing 'Waterfalls.' ")
The concerts on the tour will feature material from "It's The Girls!" plus hits from Midler's long career.
It's been an impressively successful and varied career. Midler has earned four Grammy Awards, two Academy Award nominations, three Emmy Awards, one Tony Award, three Golden Globe Awards and nine American Comedy Awards. She has sold more than 30 million albums.
