Here are some facts and figures about the new Manatee Performing Arts Center.
Total seats: 364 (that's 128 more than in the Riverfront Theatre).
Parking spaces: 121 in the adjacent city lot, all free. There's also parking in the condominium garage next door.
Restrooms accommodations: Three stalls and four urinals in the men's room, eight stalls in the ladies' room, one in the family restroom. All significant increases from the old theater.
Size of the grand drape: 24 feet high, 58 feet wide.
Size of stage: Approximately 3,000 square feet
Money stuff: The Players started a $150-million dollar fundraising campaign in 1999. It was a "silent" campaign at first, but became a public campaign in 2005. The company needs about another $500,000 immediately to finish construction of decorative elements and some parts of the building that don't need to be finished before opening.
Wow factor: A chandelier that was one the set of "Gone With the Wind, and appears prominently in the film, hangs in the lobby. The chandelier wasn't in Tara, unfortunately, but in Ashley Wilkes' home, Twelve Oaks. It is owned by Sarasota Opera, where it hung for many years, but has been in storage since a renovation to the opera house. It's on "permanent loan" to Manatee Players.
