It’s really cool that a band from Bradenton has hit the big time the way that Have Gun, Will Travel has. The band gets rave reviews from respected Americana and roots music publications, its music gets played in national TV commercials and TV shows, and fans all over the world get to know a bit about Bradenton from references in their songs.
The downside, though, is that we don’t get to see HGWT play live around here too much. They’re on the road a lot, and even when they play in this area it’s often in clubs in Tampa or St. Petersburg that are a bit of a hike.
They’ve been playing a lot of shows in west central Florida, including gigs in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. lately, promoting their latest album, “Science From an Easy Chair.” They’re finally coming home to play a local show this weekend. They’ll be at the Blue Rooster in Sarasota Friday night.
“Science From an Easy Chair,” which came out last year, is lyrically ambitious — it’s a concept album about Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition of a century ago — but still has sound HGWT fans love.
