For several months, people in Bradenton got used to seeing local singer Sam Woolf once or twice a week on TV, as he rose through the ranks of "American Idol" hopefuls to a fifth-place finish.
But we haven't had much of a chance to see him perform since he and other "Idol" finalists performed at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in July.
This weekend brings another opportunity to see Bradenton's resident heartthrob. He'll be performing in concert Saturday at IMG Academy.
It's being billed as a "welcome home" concert for Woolf, but he won't be here long. Del Couch, the founder of the Del Couch Music Foundation, where Woolf studied, said Woolf will be moving to Nashville. He'll be rooming with Alex Preston, who finished just ahead of Woolf on "Idol," as they start to establish their music careers.
Woolf also has a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston awaiting him. He has said he plans to start classes there next fall.
Couch said Woolf will play a lot of his original material at this show. Other musicians and bands from Couch's foundation, including Brooke Bonderer, Matt Walden, Paige Merriman, Trevor Bystrom and Western Son.
Proceeds from the show will go to the newly established Sam Woolf Music Scholarship Fund, which will give college scholarships to local high school music students.
Details: 7 p.m. Sept. 27, IMG Academy Stadium, 5650 Bollettieri Blvd., Bradenton. Tickets: $16.50-$33. Information: 888-345-5742, IMGAcademy.com/events.
