Justin Bieber's Miami DUI trial date has been pushed back to July 7. His lawyers on Wednesday asked for a continuance as both sides work to "resolve" the case before a trial on the misdemeanor driving under the influence charge. The Canadian pop star, whose antics have drawn worldwide scrutiny, was arrested Jan. 23 after police said he raced his high-powered Lamborghini on a South Beach residential street closed off by his security team.
According to police, the pop star admitted to smoking marijuana and taking prescription medication, and a urine analysis showed he tested positive for marijuana and Xanax. His blood alcohol level, however, was below the legal limit.
In Miami-Dade, first-time DUI offenders who are not arrested for traffic wrecks are generally eligible for a "pre-trial diversion" program that allows them to get their charge dismissed in exchange for community service, education classes and fines.
