TAMPA -- Busch Gardens is building a new thrill ride, and it won't be for the faint of heart.
Falcon's Fury will become the tallest freestanding drop tower in North America at 335 feet high. Riders will plummet in a prone position straight down at speeds reaching 60 mph.
Scheduled to open next spring, Falcon's Fury will be visible from any place in the park and, for that matter, locations well away from the park. It will rise in the park's Timbuktu section and join an already impressive lineup of thrill rides, including Cheetah Hunt, SheiKra, Montu and Kumba.
Park publicists say the new ride was inspired by the falcon, the fastest animal on earth. The falcon reaches speeds of 200 mph while diving for prey.
At Falcon's Fury's highest point, riders will pivot 90 degrees in midair to a face-down dive position. An instant later, they'll plunge 60 mph at 3.5 Gs.
Eating lunch first isn't advised.
