BRADENTON — Manatee County School District Superintendent Tim McGonegal is hosting a legislative luncheon at 11:45 a.m. today at Mattison’s Riverside restaurant, 1200 First Ave. W. at the Twin Dolphin Marina, Bradenton.
McGonegal has invited members of the Manatee County School Board as well as state senators Michael Bennett, Nancy Detert and Arthenia Joyner, along with state representatives Keith Fitzgerald, Bill Galvano, Darryl Rouson and Ron Reagan.
According to information from the district, the group is expected to discuss legislative issues related to state and local education.

Ave Maria open house set
MYAKKA CITY — Ave Maria Preparatory School, the only K-12 school specifically for special learning needs in Manatee and Sarasota counties, is having an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at its new location, 6289 Verna Road in Myakka City.
Ave Maria serves students ages 6-22 from Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Myakka City, Parrish, Sarasota, Venice, North Port and Port Charlotte.
The school accepts McKay Scholarships, has an after-care program and also provides student transportation.

Alumni invited to sing
MANATEE — Kinnan Elementary Music Teacher Beth VonEnde is inviting former members of the school’s chorus to celebrate the school’s 10th anniversary when it hosts an evening titled “The Best of Kinnan” at 7 p.m. Nov. 19
Since Kinnan opened in 2000, approximately 1,000 students have participated in the fourth and fifth grade chorus, according to the Manatee County School District.

McNeal runners club begins
MANATEE — To emphasize the importance and fun of physical fitness, students, staff and parents at McNeal Elementary School have started a runners’ club that works out Friday mornings before classes begin.
More than 100 students participate in the club that runs or walks around a field in back of the school from 7:50 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., school officials said. Five laps around the field equals a mile and students earn certain rewards for logging specific numbers of laps. For more information, call at (941) 751-8165.
