BRADENTON — Members of the armed services were honored in a Veterans Day patriotic ceremony Tuesday at a Kiwanis Club of Bradenton noon luncheon.
A visual salute to veterans that included a photo display of the five service branches — the Air Force, Marines, Army, Navy and Coast Guard — accompanied by a medley of armed forces songs was the highlight of the luncheon. Nearly two dozen Kiwanis members who served in the service branches stood as their branch’s song was played.
Jerry Koontz, luncheon chair, also recognized members who served in World War II, the Korean War, the Viet Nam conflict, the Gulf War and Iraqi Freedom.
Marianne Barnebey, accompanied by pianist Jimmie Vann, sang the national anthem followed by a posting of the colors by members of VFW Post 10141 honor guard.
Among those attending the luncheon were former state senator Ed Price, County Commissioner Larry Bustle, and Don Schroder, former president of the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce.
The Kiwanis Club was founded in 1912 and has 130 business leaders as members who support local nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on the children and youth of Manatee County.
